Attendance

Attendance matters! The consistency for both students and teachers is critical to success. Consequences can come from excessive or unexcused absences.

Out-of-School Time (OST)
Out-of-School Time (OST) is the time that a child or youth spends in after-school or summer programming. In Philadelphia, OST programs are provided for young people in grades K through 12.

Our School offers several programs to broaden the horizons of our young scholars. We offer a variety of activities and clubs geared toward student interests and abilities.

• Creative Kids

William Dick School has a longstanding history of serving students and families in North Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion community. While historical records clearly establish the school’s name, I could not find a reliable source identifying the specific William Dick for whom the Philadelphia school was named, so I would avoid attributing the name to an individual without documentation.

The current William Dick School building was constructed in 1954 at 2498 W. Diamond Street. Designed by Philadelphia architect Max Bieberbach Jr., the three-story school reflects the mid-century period of public-school construction in Philadelphia and has served generations of neighborhood students and families.

Today, William Dick School continues its tradition of education, community partnership, and creating opportunities for students to thrive. The school proudly carries forward more than 70 years of history while providing a supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to explore, think critically, and become positive contributors to their community.

Annual Notification of Rights under FERPA
The School District of Philadelphia is required to annually notify parents and eligible students of their rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). These rights include the right to inspect and review education records, request amendments, consent to disclosures, and file a complaint.

Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing at all times, including shirts, pants, shorts, dresses, skirts, and proper footwear.

Shirt color

• Grades K–5: Plain yellow or gold
• Grades 6–8: Plain khaki tan or black

Pants/Bottoms

• K–5: Black
• 6–8: Black or khaki

Footwear: Closed-toe and heel sneakers or shoes

Not Permitted

• High-heel shoes, open-toe sandals, flip-flops, or Crocs
• Tights, leggings, or biker shorts worn with a skirt overtop
• Shorts or skirts more than 3 inches above the knee
• Hats, hoods, bandanas, or do-rags

If a student violates the dress code:

• A parent/guardian may be contacted
• The school may provide loaner clothing or request that a change of clothes be brought to school
